Gerry Symonds

Gerry Symonds commenced training in all facets of dance at the age of 7 in Adelaide. He left school at the age of 14 to study full time dance/singing & drama with Shelia Laing & Gwen Mackay in Adelaide. At the age of 15, Gerry was accepted into his first major musical production of Oklahoma, the Australian tour, after which a further 17 major musical theatre productions would follow both here in Australia and on London’s West End. Gerry has worked for every television station in Australia and with every commercial choreographer. At the age of 16, he was cast as Riff in the Sydney and Melbourne seasons of West Side Story (The youngest performer ever to be cast in this role).

He has worked not only in musical theatre and television, but also in cabaret and film as well as having choreographed many corporate events. Gerry was also an original cast member of Tap Dogs and created the Upside Down tap segment for the show. After becoming a qualified personal trainer, Gerry returned to the stage to become the Dance Captain on Billy Elliot the Musical in Australia. Gerry was involved in all the auditions during the casting of all the Billys and Michaels for six months prior to production commencing as their tap coach, Pilates coach and nutrition advisor. Gerry is currently production his own tap dance show involving tap and illusion.
